Adoption: Finalization
How do I adopt in Connecticut?

Many domestic adoptions require a Connecticut Probate Court Adoption Finalization after all of the required post placement visits and reports are completed. Relatively few international adoptions require any Connecticut Probate Court work.

This finalization leads the way for your adopted child to receive a Connecticut birth certificate with their adoptive name and you listed as their parents.

JFS has worked with almost all Probate Courts in Connecticut including Stamford, Fairfield, New Haven and Hartford and in addition to completing all required papers, accompanies you to court on Adoption Finalization Day.

No attorney is needed to finalize the adoption of a child in Connecticut.
